Notice the "look" of the unrestored finishes. Clearly nothing has been repainted or replated. Usually, owners can't stand the sight of worn finishes and proceed to "fix" them. Unknowingly, they lower the value. More and more collectors are appreciating authenticity over cosmetics. Restoration and refinishing removes authenticity. Even original parts, once refinished, are no longer considered unrestored by Bloomington Gold SURVIVOR standards.

Another typical example of the "look" of an unrestored engine compartment after 40 years. Notice there is no sign of refinishing or restoration, yet the finishes are still in good enough condition to be used as a research source - the test for Bloomington Gold's SURVIVOR Standards.

A classic example of the "look" of a typical engine compartment. Looks nice. But hard to tell if restored or assembled from parts and restored to appear like an original. Owners must decide if they want pretty cars or documented authentic ones. Sometimes hard to get both with the same car.
